- The egg shapes: one totally tear shape while the other oblong.
- The tear shape egg will generate female baby.
- The oblong shape will generate male baby.
11. Their eggs shapes
- Their biggest weakness is their attraction to swiftlet made sounds.
- Sounds have the ability to make them becoming frenzy and totally out of control.
- In their life system sound have a very high impact on them.
- They usually will sing to each other.
- Young birds will start singing when they reach 40-45 days old.
- If you play the "Duress" bird test sound they will quickly gather above the test gadget and will not move unless you stop the sound.
- The next few days they will still come to the same spot at the same time when the sound was played many days ago.
13. Another weakness:
- They have a very strong sense of smell.
- They use their own feathers to lace their nest for easier identification in total darkness.
- There will be at least two feathers on every raw nests.
- The smell from these feathers will get them to identify which nest belongs to them.
- They are also attracted to their shit smell, their nest smell and some aroma that are made by human.
14. Their special gift:
- Among so many birds species swiftlet have this special gift of echo sounder.
- The echo sounder is similar to sonar system used by bats to fly in total darkness.
- The moment they are subjected to a dark environment they will start to produce those clicking sound.
- The click sound will be shot to the front and when there is any object or walls in front the sound will be reflected to a received.
- This special gift have a very strong reason why they always choose total darkness as their preferred location to start their nest.
- They use this special gift to prevent predators from preving onto their eggs or babies.
15. The effect of external sound:
- When a good external sound is played at entrance hole, they will gather and will usually enter the house.
- Some good sound can turn them into a kind of "FRENZY" state.
- At times they will not take position and fly the whole time inside your BH.
- They also tend to loose interest to any good sound if the sound is being played day in and day out.
- The birds shows unique behaviors to every sounds that your played.
- Some will scare them aways, some will pull them over but never enter and some will make them jump into the entrance hole.
- Beside good sound they also will show some strange behavior if the sound volume is not right.
16. Internal sound effect:
- Internal sound can seduce the young birds to matured much faster.
- At night once the external sound are off the bird will move their location from the external sound playing tweeters to those internal sound playing tweeters.
- Those baby cry sound seem to make the young couples feel safe and comfortable.
- If you use the wrong internal sound most of these birds will either fly away of refuse to start making their nests.
- Remember internal sound will usually make the young birds to quickly mate and populate your BH.
17. The important of morning light:
- While they like to hide or stay in a pitch dark room, they do need light to find their way out of the BH.
- It is very important that during BH design state enough morning light are allowed to enter the BH.
- Those birds needs to fly out as early as possible to find food.
- This is why you need to open one of your entrance hole to face the east.
- If your BH have one entence hole and is facing the west, you will experience something unusual where they will occupy those nesting planks closed to the entry point.
- On the other hand if your BH is too long the birds will choose the right location where they find their way out in the early morning.
- Remember when entering they will be guided by your external sound tweeter's placement but when they flew out they need light.
18. Fooding behaviors:
- If you are observant and smart you can actually predict where these birds will fly to everyday once they leave their nest.
- They will start their food hunting the moment the sun rises. They use the light source to guide them out of the house.
- Their first target will be those low land areas (padi fields, shrub and bushes).
- By 9:00am they will be hovering above those plantation and kampongs slighty higher than those flat lands.
- By 11:00am their preferred hunting ground will be the forest canopies. They will fly to a much higher level once the heat of the sun causes those forest trees flowers to bloom.
- Once the time of the day hit around 4:30pm they will start to come down towards those water sources.
- They will then travel towards their house by above 6:00 - 7:00pm.
- They will be rushing into their home just before total darkness.
- All in all they know the exact locations where they can find the most insect at what times of the day.
19. Select proper time to test:
- By knowing they fooding behavior you can select the best time to see better result during your bird call tests.
- An area near a water pond - 4:30pm.
- A padi field - 8:00am.
- A Kampong - 9:30am.
- A hilly area closed to virgin forest - 11:00pm.
